When you walked through all of the pre-made Easter baskets at the store this year, did you find that there were really none that interested you?   With a little more shopping for the basics, you can put together a basket for someone that they will love more then any pre-made basket that you will find.  Just follow these simple steps and you too can learn how to make your own Easter basket.

-The Base-

To begin making your own Easter basket you first need to choose a basket.  Select a basket that the person you are making it for is going to want to keep and use all year round.  If this is for a young girl, maybe a pretty basket where she can keep her doll accessories or other small items in after the holiday has past.  For boys, an Easter bucket may be more appropriate so that they can take it outside and collect rocks in it or make forts with it in the mud.

After choosing the basket, you then need to decide if you want to add base filler.  Base fillers in Easter baskets are generally the shiny, plastic grass that is only sold this time of year.  While it comes in a variety of colors and is the prettiest option, it is not your only one.

A more environmentally friend option would be shredded brown paper, it is not as bright and cheerful as the grass, but you can at least put it in the recycling bin after you are done with it.  If you are looking to save the most amount of money making your own Easter basket, do not put any filler in at all.  You will not have the mess to clean up later and you will have more room to put the good stuff in.

-Filling it up-

What you put in the Easter basket depends entirely on whom you are buying it for.  If you are making a basket for a budding magician then fill it up with candy and magic tricks.  A basket for a diabetic could be filled with sugar-free candy.  What you put into the basket is up to you.

The basket and the items that are in it are really all that people are going to notice about the basket you made for them.  Adding a ribbon or wrapping it in plastic is really a waste of time and money for you.  So just stick to the basics and now you know how to make your own Easter gift baskets.
