Do It Yourself Archives

All women and even many men enjoy going to the spa. Facials, manicures, pedicures and massages are sure hard to turn down. After a rough week of dealing with kids and work there is nothing better than just sitting back and getting to relax with the royal treatment. Of course, many people are not able to afford to actually go to the spa.

If you find yourself in this situation or know someone else who is, but who would still love the luxury of spa treatments, you can use home spa gifts and make your own home spa gift basket. This is the perfect delight to give to any one of your friends and even yourself. There are only a few easy steps involved and you will have a gorgeous gift basket with all the best goodies ready to go.

Step1

Start by compiling the different items that will go in the gift basket. Start with shampoos and conditioners. Everyone can use more of these products and they are pretty affordable too. This makes a great starting point for your gift basket. If you know the person well, maybe your sister or best friend, you can take that extra step and find the right hair products based on their hair type.

Step2

Thick cotton facecloths would be a nice addition to the basket as well. These can be used to clean off mud and other facial masks and can also be soaked in water and laid over the eyes to help with dark circles and puffy eyes.

Step3

Epsom salts and bubble bath are another idea. These are products that will help them to enjoy their bath time that much more. Aromatherapy products are ideal for home spa gift baskets. These are therapeutic products that not only smell great they also help boost the immune system and improve one’s overall health.

Depending on the type of essential oils used in the products, you choose they can help relieve menstrual cramps, regulate hormones, improve skin tone and improve sleep. Lavender works to relax and soothe while lemon and jasmine are refreshing and energizing.

Step4

Creams and gels are also nice to include and can be used after they get out of the bath. Look for moisturizing lotions and potions that will replenish and hydrate the skin.

Step5

Now take some cellophane and wrap it loosely around the packages. The ends should meet up at the bottom, underneath the basket itself. Use some tape or a tie to hold the pieces together. The cellophane will protect the gifts in the basket and also make the basket look finished. This is a wonderful gift idea for anyone in your life and the best part is that you can personalize it however you want.

The better you know someone the easier it will be to decide on gifts you know they will love. It feels great giving a gift you know will actually get some use out of it. Everyone wants to be pampered and saving hundreds of dollars to have a spa day at home will make them enjoy your gift that much more.

Easy to make father’s day gift ideas

Father’s day is always a special day, whether it is the first father’s day or one down the road. Often it is the dad who has everything, making fathers difficult to buy for.  However, they always appreciate homemade fathers day gifts from the heart. It does not matter if the child is a toddler or teen, the gifts can be created especially for dad, with or without help.

Handmade Bookmark – Easy to make

For the dad who loves to read, a homemade bookmark is a perfect gift. One great way to do this is with some wire or ribbon, a flat craft stick, and some beads. The wire or ribbon is attached to the craft stick with hot glue (or for older kids, a hole can be drilled into the stick and the wire or ribbon threaded through and tied). Next, the beads are threaded onto the ribbon or wire and then tied off at the end. The dad’s favorite colors can be used, maybe those of his school or favorite sports team. For a finishing touch, a message can be written on the craft stick with paint pen or permanent marker. This is an easy to make, inexpensive functional gift Dad will love.

Bag tag

Another of these easy to make gifts for dad is a bag tag. Any picture, including a family photo, can be used. Some other picture ideas are, again, favorite sports teams, hobbies, or favorite places. For this gift craft, the photo, some heavy paper, laminating materials, a hole punch and some plastic lace is needed. Beads are optional. After the picture is chosen, and it should be about business card size, it needs to be adhered to the heavy stock paper and cut to size (some border can show for color). Now is the time to write a nice message on the back. Next, this needs to be laminated and cut, leaving clear plastic border. A hole should then be cut on one of the shorter sides and the plastic lace threaded through. If beads are desired, they should be threaded onto the plastic lace before it is tied off. The best way to attach is bag tag style, but any loop will do. Then Dad can always have this with him when he travels and it will identify his bag. He could also put it on his golf or tennis bag if he plays.

Dads will appreciate the time spent on these gifts and the personalization. There is nothing like a special gift from the heart.
