Memorial Day is a time for remembrance.  It is a time to think about the sacrifices made by service people past and present as well as the hellish conditions they had to endure.  The freedom we enjoy today was and is not free and we must celebrate those who have paid with their time, compassions, hard work and their lives.

Many famous quotes about everything Memorial Day abound in literature and on the internet.  There are quotes from famous scholars, leaders, business people and military personnel.  While these quotes are inspiring and great to use when writing or speaking about Memorial Day, they are not always so original.  The following are some quotes made from scratch.  This list illustrates that if you give it a little thought, you too can come up with some interesting things to say about this important day.

Memorial Day quotes on war and peace:

“If all people desired peace and had a strong conviction to pursue it, there would be no more war and those who sacrificed would truly have a purpose for sacrifice.”

“Conflict arises when there are differing viewpoints and scarce resources, war is conflict’s final straw and our children will be sent to draw it.”

Here are patriotic quotes for Memorial Day:

“A person who stands up for her or his country is truly deserving of possession.”

“Flying a flag, saying a prayer or patting a soldier on the back are all nice gestures, yet true patriotism involves action in time of need.”

If you are still stumped on how to come up with something original to say there are many people from whom you could derive inspiration. Francis A Walker quotes of Memorial Day are a good source.  Walker was a Union soldier and adjunct general and also an economist during the Civil War era and afterward.  Some of his quotes highlight why we celebrate Memorial Day.  He thought that those who gave their lives in service should not be mourned but celebrated.  They should be praised for the things they gave up to make sure the country was protected and could be free.  You could even write a quote about Walker himself.

Of course, if this doesn’t suit you there is always religion to fall back on.  There are many inspirational phrases and meanings from the Christian religion for example.

Memorial Day Christian quotes:

“God will ensure our safety by sending those among us who are strong enough to fight.”

“Our Lord will deliver us from evil through our children’s strength.”

If you have a loved one in the armed services or someone in your past family history, you need only remember a story or two you may have heard about them.  Even remembering things you learned in school about war, peace and similar topics can conjure up opinions or important things you want to say.

“Some stories are difficult to tell to the innocent, however to preserve that innocence the stories must be told.”

“Our sons and daughters who gave their lives in service of the country may no longer live with us in body and mind but shall live on in the air, seas, and ground we call home.”

If you need an inspirational quote about Memorial Day and you don’t want to use another’s words, just remember to be creative and speak from the heart.  If you let yourself relax and think of what you believe in the words will come.  If this is more trouble than its worth, try looking to inspirational people, places, words and things to get you started.  If you know of a famous person in history that you have always admired, try reading about the things that they said or did.  The internet is a wonderful source to search for ideas.  Try bouncing your ideas of people you know to see what they think.  Good luck in your development of inspirational things to say about Memorial Day! The History Of Memorial Day

Memorial Day is one of the most important days of remembrance in the annual calendar. It is the day in which we remember the veterans of war that fought in the First World War. Veterans are men, or women that were originally part of the American or Allied military at some point in their lives, on this day we remember the ones who were part of this war, whether they are dead, or alive.

World War 1, or as it is often referred to "The Great War" was fought for 4 years between the Allied troops, and Germany. It lasted for approximately 4 years between 1914 and 1918. It was a long and gruesome battle, and many lives were lost. The ending of the war, or the peace agreement was reached at 11a.m, November 11, 1918. This date is extremely significant, and to this day remains one of the most important days in modern history. It fell on the 11th hour, of the 11 day, of the 11th month. This was the beginning of the history of Memorial Day.

The day was not always named Memorial Day, it was originally called Armistice Day, but is still one of the only days of the year that is dedicated to the celebration of peace in the world, and the remembrance of the thousands of brave souls that were lost in the dark years between 1914 and 1918.

It is a day that is especially important in the United States, and the United Kingdom. These were the 2 countries that lost the most men during the terrible war. The large majority of the lives lost were men and women between the ages of 18 and 22, so they were extremely young men and women. This, of course, makes it all the more tragic.

It is customary in these countries that at 11a.m, 11 November every year to this day that a minutes silence is taken. This is carried out by whoever chooses to congregate at the various points where the names of the lost are shown. This silence is a time for friends, family members or just countrymen, and women to remember the sacrifice that the brave soldiers made for their country to maintain their way of life. This is the history of Memorial Day, a day that is paramount in the making of the world we live in today. Millions of people turn out every year to pay their respects to the lost soldiers.
